It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kathleen Marie MacDonald, who left us on July 10, 2024, at the age of 89. Kathy was born on September 29, 1934, in Lincoln Park, MI, to the late Anna and Arthur Zweng.

She was the beloved wife of the late William A. MacDonald whom she loved dearly. She was a beautiful autumn bride when they were married on October 19, 1957. They spent 50 wonderful years together until his passing in October 2007. They loved to travel and were always at every graduation, baptism, birth, event or dance recital of their children and grandchildren. Winters were enjoyed at their home on Hutchinson Island, Florida with newfound cohorts from all around the country.

Kathy is survived by her loving children; Laura (Greg) O’Leary, Denise (Dave) Kemp, Carolyn (Steve) Buchanan, William (Lyn) MacDonald, Robert (Sandy) MacDonald. She was preceded in death by her cherished siblings; Francis Zweng, Arthur Zweng, Donald Zweng, Margaret Schuck, Mary Zweng, Rosemarie Zweng, and Robert Zweng.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren; Jason (Jamie) MacDonald, Jarrett (Lindsay) Kemp, Kristen (Mitch) Buchanan-McGaughy, Brittany (Ryan) Krichiver, Daniel O’Leary, Steven (Jackie) Kemp, Colleen (Mike) Georges, Holly Buchanan, Kevin Buchanan, Ryan (Sameer) MacDonald-Khan, Erin MacDonald, Kaylee MacDonald, and Shelby MacDonald. Her great grandchildren; Lyla Kemp, Jaden MacDonald, Owen Kemp, Emmelyn Georges, Claire Kemp, Walter Kemp, and Cole Georges. She is also survived by numerous friends and family members.

Kathy was very active. The saying that no grass grows under her feet, matched her personality perfectly. She loved to watch sports and was a big fan of the local teams. One of her first jobs was working for the Detroit Tigers and she was excited to get tickets to their World Series run in 1968. She retired from Nicholson Terminal and Dock in 1996 after working there 18 years. She volunteered often in her church and community with Christian Mothers, Meals on Wheels, Focus Hope, the St. Alfred Fall festival. and many others. She loved to ride her bike, go to exercise class, play cards, do word search puzzles, and keep busy with her many interests. The assortment of Christmas confections that she would bake each year was legendary and eagerly anticipated by her grandchildren and neighbors. She loved her family and with her outgoing nature, had many friends. On Filmore Street in Taylor she was a part of a very strong and fun community with neighbors that were lifelong friends. She will be missed by all.

Kathy will lie In state Saturday, July 20th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Pallotti, 334 Elm St., Wyandotte, MI 48192. Mass of Resurrection 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Family Tribute ~

She was born and raised in River Rouge, MI alongside her five siblings. Jeanette was married to her husband, James, for 61 years. Together they raised 9 children in the same River Rouge home she was born in. Jeanette helped build a foundation of having 10 children, 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Jeannette loved to share stories from her own childhood with anyone who sat with her in the living room with a caffeine free Diet Coke. Jeannette assured us we lived a life filled with unconditional love and faith. She taught us to live a life lead with the Lord and trust in His plan. Jeanette left a legacy of having a loving devotion for the Lord and blessed mother. She prayed for everyone every day. More often lately we heard “I don’t know why the good lord is keeping me here”. Then she would say, “Maybe there’s no room for me”. We all knew it was because she still had work to do. You see, she prayed the rosary every day and sometimes twice a day and would name every single child, grandchild and great-grandchild. Her worry was always for everyone else and never stopped. So when the funeral home director asked us what her occupation was our response was us – her family! ❤️

John 14: 1-4

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”
