Eileen Louise Manley, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, in Elmira, Michigan, at the age of 98.
Born on January 31, 1927, in Van Dyke Township, Michigan to Charles and Elsie (Burke) McEwan, Eileen grew up in a loving home alongside her siblings. That same home she moved into at 4 years old, in River Rouge, is still in the Manley family today.
A proud graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge, Eileen was a testament to the values of old-fashioned hard work and dedication. It was during her vibrant youth that she met the love of her life, Hubert “Moss” Manley. Following Moss’s military service, their love blossomed into marriage on September 15, 1947. Together, they embarked on a life full of adventures, living in California and then Lake Havasu, Arizona from 1981-2020, and eventually Eileen settled back in Michigan after Moss’s passing in 2004.
Throughout her life, Eileen took joy in simple pleasures like casino trips and traveling. She loved visiting with family and treated everyone she met with respect and equality. She always saw the bright side of situations and maintained a positive attitude that was contagious. Above all, Eileen was a devout catholic. Her faith was strong and never wavered.
Eileen’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family and all who were touched by her warmth. Her legacy of love, kindness, and gentle spirit will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed.
Eileen’s life was marked by her loving and kind spirit, and she possessed a gentleness that was felt by all who knew her. Her family was her pride and joy, and she is survived by her loving children, Diane Manley, Joe (Jan Yergian) Manley, Buddy (Janie) Manley, Rebecca Manley, Molly (Stan Jordan) Manley, and Charlie (Michele) Manley; as well as her daughter-in-law, Sandy Manley. Eileen’s legacy also includes many adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory. She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband, Moss; her precious children, Hubert and Leo; her parents; and her siblings, John, Chuck, Mary, and Mavis.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 334 Elm St., Wyandotte, MI 48192 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service at the K of C Hall at 3530 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte, MI 48192.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan online at https://www.hom.org/donate/.
