Michael J. Klavon passed away on September 29, 2024, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Rose Marie, preceded in death by his first wife, Jean. Dear father of Mark (Robin), Matthew (the late Lori), and Michael (Gina) and stepfather of Nick and the late Joseph Meconi. Proudest grandfather of Kristin, Sarah, Amanda (Jake) Smith, Kari, Jarod (Anastasia), Aubrey, Christopher, Gianna, and Dominik. Mike’s first great-granddaughter is due in December. Brother of Margot Liba (O’Connor), David T. Klavon. He is preceded in death by his brothers Karl, Frank, and Tom.
Michael was a devout Catholic and his faith was of importance in his life. He could often be found volunteering and ushering at the church and bringing communion to assisted living residents. Mike also served in the Knights of Columbus 1802 in Wyandotte for years; he even had his 3 sons join once they turned 18.
Mike proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and spent some time stationed in Germany. He is a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Mike enjoyed bowling and golfing. He also loved taking part in his children and grandchildrens’ sporting events. Although he worked midnights full time for 40 years, he rarely missed a game. He also spent some time coaching baseball and hockey.
Mike had a mind for the mechanical. He could tinker and learn how to fix things. He also learned trades very quickly. He basically taught himself how to work and sew leather and reupholstered his ’62 Thunderbird. He also had a gift to patiently teach those skills to those wanting to learn.
He and Rose Marie enjoyed their time together, traveling often to Florida and Tennessee.
In just a few words, his family described him as caring, friend, teacher, and mentor.
A visitation will be held at the Lincoln Park location of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2-9pm. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7pm. Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wyandotte on Friday, Oct. 4, at 10am. Gathering at the church begins at 9:30am.
