Dewey Leon Mackens was a caring, loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away peacefully with family on the 5th of August 2022.
Dewey was born to Herbert Staten and Lola Mackens on the family farm in Clarksville, Tennessee on the 27th of July 1937. The growing Mackens family later moved to Detroit to join in the opportunities of the thriving automotive industry. While working in his formative years at Harry’s Market, he met and married the love of his life, June. Dewey spent his career at McLouth Steel in Trenton, Michigan.
Dewey was an avid gardener, any visit to his house in Wyandotte included an extensive tour of the flowers and vegetables of the season. He was devotedly active in his church, both managing the vegetable gardens and cooking for various charity events. He also enjoyed the Detroit Tigers – there was aways a transistor radio nearby tuned into the game.
Dewey is preceded in death by his parents Herbert Staten and Lola Mackens, his wife June Mackens, his brothers Warren, Herbert, Ralf, and David Mackens, and his dear friend Grace Powell.
He is survived by his sister Judy Mackens, sisters-in-law Wava (Warren), Judy (Herbert), Bonnie (Ralf), and Sharon (David) Mackens and multiple nieces and nephews.
A funeral service in honor of Dewey will be held Friday August 12, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church located at 135 Superior Blvd. Wyandotte, MI 48192 with an instate at 9:30am and a funeral mass beginning at 10:00am.
Burial will take place at Mt Carmel Cemetery in Wyandotte, MI.
